What is a 3D depth camera?

3D depth camera is a new technology emerging in recent years. Compared with the traditional camera, 3D depth camera adds a depth measurement to the function, which makes it more convenient and accurate to perceive the surrounding environment and changes. 3D depth camera has many application scenarios, and there are many shadows of the depth camera in our daily life. So what can it be used for? 3D modeling, unmanned driving, robot navigation, mobile phone face unlocking, somatosensory games, etc. all use depth cameras to achieve their functions.
At present, from the technical level of realizing the function of the depth camera, there are the following mainstream solutions: binocular, structured light, tof.
1. Binocular depth camera:
Passive depth camera measurement is similar to the arrangement of eyes. The same environment is observed through two calibrated 2D cameras, and the feature points are matched according to the image content, and then the depth is calculated.
2. Structured light depth camera:
Depth measurements are made from feature deformations in feedback by actively projecting structured light with special texture features.
3. ToF depth camera
Through the active projection of laser light, the time of flight of the light emitted to the received light is calculated for depth calculation.
